About Janet Pirozzi
Janet Pirozzi grew up in New York and moved to the Pacific northwest before settling in Reno in 1981. She loves the freedom of the desert and the warmth of the sun.
After spending years in the public and private sector, Janet turned to visual journaling as a way to reduce stress. Through her journaling and meditation practices, she has been able to get in touch with her feelings and give voice to her soul. Her art brings the true essence of her soul to life. Janet is about producing art that is interpreted differently not only by individual viewers, but on any given day.
"I hope the viewer will not ever get bored with my work. Most of my work starts with a pallet of 3-5 colors. I rarely have a purpose or a vision of what I want the outcome to be. I simply enjoy the process. The outcome is a combination of the colors and my state of mind. Sometimes my work is serene and other times it is more dramatic and perhaps even disturbing.
My work is rarely realistic -- when it is, it is because I took a class where everyone was striving to be realistic - so I did too. I find realistic paintings to be beautiful, but they do not keep my interest. It's like once I have seen them, I am done. I much prefer a piece that evolves into something new every time I look at it. An abstract piece always makes me stop, look, stare and look some more. I never just breeze by an abstract work of art.
My work is not intentional - it develops and changes from one day to the next. When I name my paintings, I strive to offer a suggestive, but not defining name. I don't want the person who views my work to have to see or react the same way I do. I want them to have an emotional experience of their own. I hope my work speaks to the viewer and I hope each person finds something a little different from the same picture."
